We market our security software products as "shareware", and we would like to point out that shareware is not a separate type of software, but is merely a way of marketing software. In fact, software obtained as shareware is not by definition any different from "regular" commercial software. While there are both good and not-so-good shareware programs being distributed, this is also true of "shrinkwrap" software as well (including some rather expensive software applications and operating systems, as you may well know).
For you, the user, there are two main advantages to shareware: Because overhead costs are low, you are able to obtain quality software at economical prices. And, because you can "try before you buy" (unlike commercial software where you must "buy before you try"), you are able to know exactly what you are purchasing before you actually have to spend money on it.
When judging the costs of licensing our software, please don't forget that one
license covers all versions, and upgrades are always free (unlike the products from many other companies, that require you to keep spending money just to try to stay up-to-date).

An Individual (Single-PC) License entitles a registered individual (NON-institutional) user to install a program on any ONE computer that he/she personally owns, but he/she must NOT allow his/her registered copy of the program to be installed or used on any other computer. Furthermore, a Single-PC copy registered to an individual user may legally be installed on his/her PERSONALLY owned computer at an institution, but that individually licensed copy of may NOT be installed on any other computer at that institution.
An Individual (Single-PC) License is intended to be used ONLY by an individual private user on his/her own computer, and may be purchased ONLY by an individual (NOT by an institution). Cetus Software will NOT accept any registration order from an individual that is to be paid for from an institutional account.
A Single-Building Site License entitles the registered institution (school building, business office, organization headquarters, etc.) to install a program on an UNlimited number of computer(s) belonging to that institution at ONE particular specified location, but registered copies of the program may NOT be distributed beyond the boundaries of that particular geographical site.
Please note that it is NOT the NUMBER of computer installations BUT it is the intended USE of the computers at an institution that require an institutional Site License. (An institution that intends to install one of our programs on only one PC must still purchase a Site License.)
Please note that Cetus Software does not ordinarily "count PC's" at any site; a registered building may have one PC or one thousand (or more) PC's covered by a site license. (This is another factor that makes the use of our security programs at institutions quite inexpensive, where the cost-per-PC may indeed be very low.)
A Corporate License entitles the registered institution (school system, business organization, etc.) to install a program on an UNlimited number of computer(s) belonging to that institution at a number of separate sites, but registered copies of the program may NOT be distributed beyond the boundaries of sites belonging to that particular institution.
A Corporate License may be obtained for multiple sites; the cost is determined primarily by the actual number of locations to be registered. Please contact Cetus Software for details.
For our Windows 3.1x products, WinGuard and ProGuard, an INDIVIDUAL (SINGLE-PC) LICENSE may be obtained for $20.00 USD. A SINGLE-BUILDING SITE LICENSE (for an UNlimited number of installations at ONE particular specified building) may be obtained for $75.00 USD; additional buildings may be registered at decreasing rates (for example, the second through the tenth buildings cost $55.00 each, the eleventh through twentieth cost $35.00 each, etc.). A CORPORATE LICENSE may be obtained for a large number of sites; please contact us for a quote for your situation.
